Event Navigation

One of the puzzles of the early history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was why it was that Joseph Smith never spoke publicly of the doctrine of Eternal Marriage until he spoke to the many thousands that attended the Sunday services in the Grove in Nauvoo on May 21, 1843—13 years after the organization of the Church!

He introduced the Endowment ordinance a year before. Joseph Smith, by command of the Lord, called nine men to receive these ordinances in 1842.

At that same time he announced to 200 of the sisters of the Relief Society that the Church would not be perfectly organized until they received this ordinance and they would administer the priesthood Endowment ordinances to the faithful sisters of the Church.

Why was it that it took so long before these men and their spouses received the next essential, exalting ordinance of the gospel, Eternal Marriage?

Brother Ehat will share his path-breaking studies when he was the first to discover and describe this extraordinary and faith-filling story. This event will be held on the 174th anniversary of this milestone event of LDS Church History.

This fireside will be held in a LDS building.
